Susan Anderson Misey has taken a circuitous route to her long-held goal of writing full-time, working first in private industry, and then teaching high school English and creative writing. During this time, she honed her craft, enjoyed a season of raising children, and earned both her master’s degree and a living wage. Now, with one college student remaining in her semi-empty nest, Susan is joyfully writing full-time.
Here are some milestones along the way:
- Master’s in professional writing from Towson University in 1996.
- Second Place in Harlequin’s “Be the Next Red Dress Ink Author” competition with a novel submission in 2001. (Susan kept writing and joined a critique group.)
- Scholastic Press Association’s Publication Contest – Silver Award 2006 as faculty editor of high school student literary magazine.
- Co-authored (with three others) English 12 for the 21st Century curriculum adopted and still in use in Harford County Public Schools, 2008.
- Published poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction in Chicken Soup for the Soul, World Enough Writers Anthology, Page & Spine, Wild Women’s Medicine Circle Journal, Decasp, and Teaching Tolerance Magazine.
- Blogger at foxywriterchick.com (on hiatus).
- Attendee, Just Write Writing Conferences, sponsored by Harford County Public Library.
- Finalist in Serious Writer’s Writer of the Year, 2019 Contest for an inspirational romantic suspense novel.
- Author of numerous full-length, completed and in-progress manuscripts including: Historical, Inspirational Romantic Suspense, New Adult Contemporary Romance, and Romantic Comedy/Hen Lit.
