Just Walk Away

It’s been said, The more things change, the more they stay the same. But the last few years have wrought tremendous change to American culture.

Changes that ultimately may encourage the individual to flee from society in search of simpler times a la David Thoreau. Or perhaps, like Greta Garbo, you long to say, “I want to be let alone.”

Yeah, not realistic for those of us who are not hermit-inclined or fabulously famous.

But still, how long can we take the all the screaming?

I don’t know, but times like these can’t be healthy. Maybe it’s time to take back our lives and muffle the noise.

Here are a few changes I’ve made to calm my own soul:

I no longer watch “The Today Show” or “Good Morning America” or even the third-string “CBS Morning News.”I used to love watching these programs, but until they can deliver the news without editorial, I’ll be over on HGTV checking out the latest in open concept floor plans.

I no longer have the stomach to check Facebook every day. When a Grateful Dead fan page turned into a cutthroat political brawl, I knew it was time to slow my roll and New Speedway Boogie off social media…

I no longer attend the movies of celebrities who shove their politics down our throats. Actors should embrace Dolly Parton’s wisdom and entertain without editorial.

I no longer view awards shows. The Oscar’s, The Emmy’s, The Golden Globes, The Grammy’s… Without Joan Rivers and the Fashion Police on the scene, it’s just a parade of elitist, self-agrandizing egotists.

I no longer care about the NFL. I used to enjoy watching football, but since the NFL has wimped out on honoring our flag and the veterans whose blood purchased it, I can no longer respect these faux heroes.

I no longer watch late night talk shows or Saturday Night Live because it is no longer fair or fun. I miss the days when comedians poked fun at both sides of the aisle with good-natured laughter.

That’s my list so far. And I grieve these things, really I do, but sometimes a person has to take a stand for their own peace of mind.

And sometimes, the best response is to just walk away.

Peace out, friends!

    1. Absolutely, Child of God! I love following Christian writers writing about Christian living! Thanks for the re-blog of Suffer the Little Children as well. Good to spread the word as to the P.C.’s normalization of evil perversions.
