  1. Thanks for reminding me that writing is supposed to fun. I’m so caught up in the idea of it being work that I’ve sucked the fun right out of it. My first thought was, I can’t waste time writing about these prompts because I have to save all writing time for “work.” See what I mean?

    Time to re-read The Artist’s Way. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I feel the same way! Maybe I need to read The Artist’s Way–never heard of it. I will investigate. I’m so focused on the novel I’m writing, that I’ve neglected my blog and also fun writing projects. Sigh. One thing I love about sobriety is that all of a sudden, I have all this extra time that I’m not too “relaxed” to pursue intellectual activities–and I still don’t seem to have enough time to do everything I long to do. Oh well, it’s a good problem to have as far as problems go, eh?

      1. Yes, it is. And also (tell me if you are finding this as well), I’m getting smarter. ๐Ÿ˜€ And better able to concentrate. It took some major brain healing to finally get where I could sit still and be productive for some length of time. How is the novel coming along? I’m midway through a memoir, and also have neglected reading blog and posting. I feel so out of the loop. Then again, I feel like I should disappear to a mountaintop for a few weeks and get some real work done. Maybe then I’d find the time.

  2. I do feel like I’m better able to concentrate–smarter, too. I never thought of it as brain healing, but you’re right. And I do feel much sharper. The novel is going okay. Was about 3/4 of the way through and decided to go back and start revising for content before I write the climax, etc. Mostly because an idea came to me (I’d like to think God was whispering in my ear) to strengthen the story/characterization… Memoir is tough–so much personal introspection and figuring out how to present certain characters who were in your life at the time… I wrote a long piece of creative nonfiction about the death and funeral of my sister’s husband of 25 years who had been hiding his “lifestyle” throughout the marriage. I had to tippy-toe around the PC issue and make sure all family members were presented accurately and in a positive light–including the dead man. Plus, there was the emotions that I felt about the whole 25+ years, etc., as well as a very unusual funeral. So I understand how you must feel in writing a memoir–only magnified 100x due to the length of the piece and the time span covered. If you find a mountaintop willing to take two writers let me know, lol! ๐Ÿ™‚
